As the VP of Data Strategy & Enablement, you will be the central pillar of the company’s data ecosystem. Key Responsibilities of VP, Data Strategy & Enablement with a Public FinTech – San Francisco, CA
Strategic Vision & Roadmapping
Develop, articulate, and execute a comprehensive, long-term data strategy and vision that aligns with the company’s overall mission and strategic priorities. Create and manage a clear roadmap for data initiatives, ensuring resources are allocated to projects with the highest business impact.
Leadership & Team Development
Build, lead, mentor, and inspire a high-performing, global organization of data professionals, including data engineers, analysts, data scientists, and governance specialists. Foster a culture of excellence, innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
Data Governance & Security
Establish and enforce a robust, company-wide data governance framework. Implement policies, standards, and processes for data quality, metadata management, data lineage, and data security. Ensure strict compliance with data privacy regulations like GDPR and CCPA and other relevant industry standards.
Modern Data Architecture
Oversee the architecture, design, and implementation of a scalable, reliable, and cost-effective modern data platform. Evaluate and adopt cutting-edge technologies and tools to enhance data infrastructure, including data warehousing, data lakes, and real-time data streaming capabilities.
Business Intelligence & Analytics Enablement
Champion a self-service analytics culture by providing teams across the organization with the tools, training, and access to data they need. Oversee the development of insightful dashboards, reports, and analytical models that drive strategic decision-making in product, marketing, finance, and operations.
Advanced Analytics & Data Science
Lead the data science function to unlock deeper insights and build predictive models that solve key business challenges. Identify and pursue opportunities to leverage machine learning and artificial intelligence to create new data-driven products, optimize processes, and enhance customer experiences.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Serve as a key strategic partner to the C-suite and other executive leaders. Collaborate closely with heads of Engineering, Product, Marketing, and Finance to understand their data needs and ensure the data strategy delivers tangible value across all business units.
Innovation & Evangelism

Requirements for the VP, Data Strategy & Enablement with a Public FinTech – San Francisco, CA
Executive Experience
A minimum of 15+ years of progressive experience in data management, analytics, and/or data science, with at least 8 years in a senior leadership capacity managing large, cross-functional teams.
Industry Background
Proven track record of success within the FinTech, banking, or financial services industry is highly preferred. Experience working within a publicly-traded company and navigating its associated complexities and regulatory requirements is a significant asset.
Educational Foundation
An advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related discipline is required.
Technical Depth
Deep, hands-on expertise with modern cloud-based data ecosystems (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure). Extensive knowledge of data warehousing solutions (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift), data modeling, ETL/ELT development, and data pipeline orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, dbt).
Analytical Prowess
Strong proficiency with BI and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Looker, Power BI). Solid understanding of statistical analysis, predictive modeling, and machine learning concepts and applications.
Strategic Mindset
A demonstrated ability to think strategically and translate complex business needs into a clear, actionable data strategy. Experience in developing and managing departmental budgets, OKRs, and long-range plans.
