Key Responsibilities of CFO, Portfolio Company with a PE-backed HealthTech – Nashville, TN
The Chief Financial Officer will have a broad range of responsibilities, overseeing all aspects of the company’s financial health and strategy. Key duties include:
Strategic Financial Leadership & Planning
- Partner with the CEO and executive team to develop and execute the company’s long-term strategic plan, providing financial modeling, analysis, and insights to support key decisions.
- Lead the annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning processes, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and PE sponsor expectations.
- Develop and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) and financial metrics (including SaaS metrics like ARR, LTV, CAC, and Churn if applicable) to monitor business performance and drive accountability across the organization.
- Serve as the primary liaison to the private equity sponsor and Board of Directors, preparing and presenting comprehensive financial reports, board materials, and performance analyses.
Financial Operations & Controls
- Oversee all accounting operations, including the monthly/quarterly close process, general ledger, A/R, A/P, payroll, and revenue recognition, ensuring compliance with GAAP.
- Implement and maintain a robust system of internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the integrity of financial reporting.
- Manage the company’s treasury function, including cash management, forecasting, and banking relationships to optimize liquidity and capital structure.
- Lead the annual external audit process and manage relationships with independent auditors.
- Ensure timely and accurate tax compliance and reporting at the federal, state, and local levels.
M&A, Capital Strategy & Investor Relations
- Play a leading role in the evaluation, due diligence, negotiation, and integration of potential M&A targets to accelerate growth.
- Develop and execute the company’s capital allocation strategy, including managing debt facilities and exploring financing options to support growth initiatives.
- Build and manage sophisticated financial models to support valuation, deal structuring, and post-acquisition integration planning.
- Act as a key point of contact for investors, lenders, and other external financial stakeholders, effectively communicating the company’s financial performance and strategic direction.
Team Leadership & Scalable Infrastructure
- Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing finance and accounting team, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Assess and upgrade financial systems, processes, and infrastructure (e.g., ERP, BI tools) to support the company’s rapid growth and evolving reporting needs.
- Provide leadership across the organization, partnering with other department heads (Sales, Marketing, Operations, Technology) to drive efficiency and profitability.

The ideal candidate will be a seasoned and strategic finance executive with a proven track record of success in a private equity-backed environment. We are seeking a leader with exceptional analytical skills, strong business acumen, and the ability to operate at both a strategic and tactical level.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field. An MBA and/or CPA designation is strongly required.
- A minimum of 15 years of progressive financial leadership experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role (e.g., CFO, VP of Finance) for a company of comparable size and complexity.
- Demonstrable experience serving as a CFO or #2 finance executive within a private equity-backed company is mandatory. Must have a deep understanding of PE reporting requirements, value creation levers, and exit processes.
- Proven track record of successfully leading and integrating M&A transactions from diligence through post-close integration.
- Strong experience in developing sophisticated financial models, budgets, and forecasts to support high-growth environments.
- Exceptional leadership and team-building skills with a history of recruiting, developing, and retaining top talent.
- Outstanding communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex financial concepts to a wide range of audiences, including the executive team, board members, and investors.
Preferred Qualifications
