As the VP, Global Supply Chain Risk, you will be the principal architect of the company’s supply chain resilience strategy. You will report directly to the Chief Supply Chain Officer and work closely with the entire C-suite to embed a culture of proactive risk awareness and management across the organization. The VP, Global Supply Chain Risk will have a broad and impactful scope of responsibilities, including but not limited to:

Strategic Framework Development

Design, implement, and continuously refine a comprehensive, end-to-end global supply chain risk management framework. This includes establishing governance, policies, risk appetite statements, and key risk indicators (KRIs).

Risk Identification & Assessment

Lead a global team to proactively identify, analyze, and quantify risks across the entire supply chain network. This encompasses operational, financial, geopolitical, regulatory, cyber, ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance), and reputational risks.

Predictive Analytics & Intelligence

Champion the integration of advanced analytics, AI, and machine learning to develop predictive risk models. Build a global intelligence capability to monitor and interpret macro-economic trends, geopolitical events, and climate data that could impact the supply chain.

Supplier Risk Management

Develop and oversee a robust supplier risk management program, including sophisticated due diligence for new suppliers, ongoing monitoring of existing partners, and segmentation based on criticality and risk exposure.

Business Continuity & Crisis Management

Own the global Business Continuity Planning (BCP) and crisis response protocols for the supply chain. Lead the command center during disruptive events, ensuring swift and effective mitigation and recovery actions.

Supply Chain Mapping & Visibility

Spearhead initiatives to achieve multi-tier supply chain visibility, mapping critical dependencies deep within the supply network to uncover hidden vulnerabilities and build a more resilient and agile supply chain.

Cross-Functional Leadership

Serve as a key strategic partner to Procurement, Manufacturing, Finance, Legal, IT, and Commercial teams. Ensure that risk management considerations are embedded in all major decisions, from sourcing strategies and product design to inventory policy.

Executive & Board Reporting

Develop and present clear, concise, and actionable reports on the global supply chain risk landscape to the executive leadership team and the Board of Directors. Translate complex risk data into strategic business implications.

Technology & Innovation

Evaluate and deploy state-of-the-art risk management technologies and platforms to enhance monitoring, modeling, and response capabilities.

Team Leadership & Development

Recruit, mentor, and lead a high-performing global team of supply chain risk professionals. Foster a culture of continuous improvement, curiosity, and proactive risk ownership throughout the organization.

Regulatory & Compliance Oversight

Ensure the global supply chain adheres to all relevant international trade laws, customs regulations, and industry-specific compliance standards, mitigating legal and financial penalties.

Requirements for the VP, Global Supply Chain Risk with an Automotive OEM – Detroit, MI

The ideal candidate will be a seasoned executive with a proven track record of building and leading sophisticated risk management functions within complex, global manufacturing environments.

Educational Background

A Master’s degree (MBA, MS) in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, Economics, or a related field is required.

Professional Experience

A minimum of 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in global supply chain, procurement, or operations, with at least 8-10 years in a senior role specifically focused on risk management.

Industry Expertise

Direct and extensive experience within the automotive OEM or a major Tier-1 supplier environment is mandatory. Deep understanding of automotive production processes (e.g., JIT), complex component lifecycles, and the industry’s unique vulnerabilities is essential.

Global Leadership

Proven experience managing globally dispersed teams and navigating the complexities of international supply chains across North America, Europe, and Asia.

Risk Framework Knowledge

Demonstrated expertise in designing and implementing enterprise-wide risk management frameworks, with strong knowledge of standards and methodologies such as COSO, ISO 31000, or similar.

Analytical Acumen

Exceptional quantitative and qualitative analytical skills. Proven ability to leverage data, statistical analysis, and financial modeling to assess risk and inform strategic decisions. Experience with risk management software, ERP systems (e.g., SAP), and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) is critical.
