Key Responsibilities of Head of Corporate Strategy with a Public Telecom Company – Reston, VA
Strategic Planning & Development
Spearhead the annual and long-range strategic planning process in close collaboration with the C-suite and Board of Directors. Develop and refine the corporate vision, mission, and strategic priorities. Conduct comprehensive market analysis, competitive intelligence, and scenario planning to identify threats and opportunities.
Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A)
Lead the end-to-end M&A lifecycle. This includes developing the M&A thesis, identifying and sourcing potential acquisition targets, conducting rigorous due diligence (financial, operational, and strategic), building complex valuation models, and negotiating deal terms. Oversee post-merger integration planning to ensure strategic objectives and synergies are realized.
Corporate Development & Strategic Partnerships
Identify, evaluate, and cultivate a pipeline of strategic partnerships, joint ventures, and alliances that accelerate growth, expand market access, and enhance technological capabilities. Structure and negotiate complex partnership agreements that create mutual value.
Market Intelligence & Trend Analysis
Serve as the company’s foremost expert on the TMT (Technology, Media, and Telecommunications) industry. Continuously monitor and analyze market dynamics, competitor strategies, emerging technologies (e.g., AI in network management, edge computing, Open RAN), and evolving customer behaviors to inform strategic direction.
Cross-Functional Leadership & Alignment
Act as a key strategic advisor to executive leadership and business unit heads. Drive alignment on strategic initiatives across the organization, ensuring that all departments—including Finance, Product, Technology, Marketing, and Operations—are working in concert to achieve corporate goals. Facilitate strategic workshops and offsites to foster innovation and collaborative planning.
Performance Measurement & Reporting
Develop and implement a robust framework for tracking the progress and performance of strategic initiatives against key performance indicators (KPIs). Prepare and deliver compelling, data-driven presentations and reports for the executive team and the Board of Directors on strategic progress, market landscape, and M&A activities.
Portfolio Management
Continuously assess the company’s existing portfolio of businesses, products, and assets. Provide recommendations for optimization, including divestitures of non-core assets, reinvestment in high-growth areas, and strategic repositioning of business units.

Requirements for the Head of Corporate Strategy with a Public Telecom Company – Reston, VA
Educational Background
An MBA or other advanced degree in Business, Finance, or a related field from a top-tier university is strongly required.
Executive Experience
A minimum of 15+ years of progressive experience in corporate strategy, corporate development, investment banking, or top-tier management consulting. A significant portion of this experience must be within the telecommunications, media, or technology (TMT) sectors.
Public Company & M&A Expertise
Demonstrable experience working for or advising publicly traded companies is essential. Must possess a proven, extensive track record of leading and executing complex M&A transactions, from initial sourcing and valuation through to post-merger integration.
Financial Acumen
