The Head of Private Wealth Management will have a broad and impactful range of responsibilities, encompassing strategic direction, team leadership, business growth, and operational oversight. Success in this role will be measured by the division’s ability to achieve ambitious growth targets while maintaining the highest standards of client service and compliance.

Strategic Leadership and Vision

Develop, articulate, and execute a comprehensive strategic plan for the Private Wealth Management division that aligns with the firm’s overall objectives. Continuously analyze market trends, competitive landscapes, and economic shifts to identify new opportunities and potential risks. Drive innovation in service offerings, technology adoption, and client experience to maintain a competitive edge. Position the firm as a thought leader in the wealth management community through publications, speaking engagements, and media commentary.

Business Development and Growth

Spearhead all business development initiatives to aggressively expand the firm’s client base and assets under management (AUM). Develop and implement targeted marketing and sales strategies to attract HNW and UHNW clients. Cultivate and maintain a robust network of external referral sources, including attorneys, accountants, and other centers of influence. Represent the firm at industry conferences, community events, and client gatherings to enhance its brand visibility and reputation. Lead the charge on significant new client acquisitions and pitches.

Client Relationship Management

Act as the senior relationship manager and trusted advisor for the firm’s most significant clients, ensuring their complex financial needs are met with sophisticated, bespoke solutions. Recruit, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of wealth advisors, portfolio managers, relationship managers, and support staff. Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and results-oriented culture that attracts and retains top talent. Establish clear performance expectations, provide regular coaching and feedback, and manage the professional development and career progression of team members. Conduct annual performance reviews and oversee compensation and incentive structures for the division.

Operational and Compliance Excellence

Ensure the division operates with maximum efficiency and scalability. Oversee all operational workflows, from client onboarding to reporting. Uphold the highest standards of ethical conduct and ensure unwavering adherence to all relevant legal and regulatory requirements. You will be responsible for ensuring the division’s activities comply with all applicable laws and that the team maintains strict adherence to all FINRA regulations and SEC guidelines, working closely with the Chief Compliance Officer to mitigate risk and maintain a pristine regulatory record.

Financial Performance and Reporting

Assume full P&L responsibility for the Private Wealth Management division. Develop and manage the annual budget, monitor financial performance against key metrics, and implement strategies to drive revenue growth and profitability. Prepare and present regular, detailed reports on the division’s performance—including AUM growth, revenue, expenses, and client satisfaction—to the executive leadership team and Board of Directors.

The ideal candidate is a distinguished and accomplished leader with extensive experience and a demonstrable track record of success within the private wealth management industry. They must possess a blend of strategic acumen, leadership prowess, and deep technical expertise.

Professional Experience

A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in private wealth management, private banking, or a related field within the financial services industry. A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in a senior leadership capacity, with direct responsibility for managing a team of advisors and full P&L oversight.

Proven Track Record

Demonstrable success in growing a wealth management business, including a history of significantly increasing AUM, revenue, and profitability. Verifiable experience in successfully attracting, retaining, and developing HNW and UHNW client relationships.

Educational Background

A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field is required. An advanced degree, such as an MBA, is strongly preferred.

Professional Designations

Professional certifications are highly desirable and will be a key differentiator. Preference will be given to candidates holding the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation.

Required Licenses

Active FINRA Series 7, 66 (or 63 & 65), and 24 (General Securities Principal) licenses are mandatory for this role.

Technical Skills

Deep and comprehensive knowledge of global financial markets, investment strategies, modern portfolio theory, asset allocation, and alternative investments. Expertise in complex financial planning topics including estate and trust services, tax planning, insurance solutions, and concentrated stock strategies.
