The Vice President of Global Logistics will have a broad and impactful scope of responsibilities, encompassing strategic planning, operational oversight, financial stewardship, and team leadership. Success in this role requires a hands-on yet strategic approach to managing a complex, multi-faceted global operation.

Strategic Vision & Executive Leadership

  • Develop, articulate, and execute a comprehensive multi-year strategic plan for the Global Logistics division that aligns with the company’s overall growth objectives.
  • Serve as a key member of the senior leadership team, providing critical insights and recommendations on market trends, competitive landscape, and strategic opportunities.
  • Lead market expansion initiatives, including the evaluation of new geographic markets, service offerings, and potential mergers or acquisitions.

Operational Excellence & Process Optimization

  • Provide ultimate oversight for all global logistics operations, including air and ocean freight forwarding, NVOCC operations, customs brokerage, and global trade compliance.
  • Establish, monitor, and drive performance against key performance indicators (KPIs) across all operational functions, focusing on service quality, on-time performance, operational efficiency, and profitability.
  • Implement and refine best-in-class operational processes and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency, scalability, and compliance across the global network.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives, leveraging methodologies such as Lean and Six Sigma to identify and eliminate waste, reduce costs, and enhance service delivery.
  • Ensure rigorous compliance with all international and domestic transportation regulations, trade laws, and customs requirements, mitigating risk for the company and its clients.

Financial Acumen & P&L Management

  • Assume full P&L responsibility for the Global Logistics division, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Develop and manage annual operating budgets, ensuring financial targets for revenue, gross margin, and net income are achieved or exceeded.
  • Drive profitability through strategic pricing, effective cost management, and astute negotiation with carriers, agents, and vendors.
  • Analyze financial and operational data to identify trends, opportunities for improvement, and potential risks, making data-driven decisions to optimize performance.

Requirements for the VP, Global Logistics with a Third-Party Logistics (3PL) – Chicago, IL

We are seeking an accomplished and dynamic executive with a proven history of success in leading global logistics operations within a 3PL environment. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of strategic vision, operational expertise, and inspirational leadership.

Core Qualifications

Experience

A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in the logistics and supply chain industry, with at least 7 years in a senior leadership role (Director, VP, or equivalent) with significant P&L responsibility.

Industry Background

Deep and extensive experience working directly for a Third-Party Logistics (3PL) provider or freight forwarder is mandatory.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field is required.

Functional & Technical Expertise

Modal Expertise

Comprehensive knowledge of global freight forwarding, including air and ocean cargo (FCL/LCL), NVOCC operations, and international transportation networks.

Customs & Compliance

Strong understanding of U.S. Customs regulations, global trade compliance, Incoterms, and other relevant international trade laws. A Customs Broker License is highly desirable.

Financial Acumen

Demonstrated success managing a full P&L for a business unit in excess of $100 million in annual revenue.

Technology Proficiency

Experience with leading Transportation Management Systems (TMS), Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), and global trade management platforms.
