The Director of Global Supply Chain is a senior leadership role responsible for the strategic direction, optimization, and overall performance of the company’s entire supply chain network. This includes global sourcing and procurement, demand and supply planning, inventory management, logistics, warehousing, and global distribution.

Strategic Leadership & Planning
Develop, articulate, and execute a comprehensive global supply chain strategy that aligns with the company’s long-term growth objectives. Conduct network analysis and design future-state supply chain models to enhance scalability, agility, and cost-effectiveness.
Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP)
Champion and lead the global S&OP process. Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Marketing, Finance, and Manufacturing to create a consensus-based demand forecast and a balanced supply plan that optimizes inventory and maximizes customer service levels.
Global Procurement & Strategic Sourcing
Oversee the strategic sourcing and procurement functions for all direct and indirect materials. Develop and manage a robust supplier relationship management (SRM) program, including supplier selection, performance scorecards, contract negotiation, and risk mitigation strategies to ensure supply continuity and quality.
Inventory Management & Optimization
Design and implement sophisticated inventory strategies across the global network. Utilize advanced analytical models to set optimal stock levels for raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods, balancing the objectives of high service levels with minimal capital investment and risk of obsolescence.
Logistics, Warehousing & Distribution
Direct all global logistics operations, including transportation, freight management (air, ocean, ground), and customs brokerage. Oversee the management of internal and third-party logistics (3PL) warehouses to ensure efficient storage, order fulfillment, and timely distribution while maintaining compliance with cold chain and other specific product requirements.
Regulatory Compliance & Quality Assurance
Ensure all supply chain operations adhere to the highest standards of quality and compliance. Guarantee that processes and systems are compliant with all relevant global regulations for the medical device industry, including FDA QSR, ISO 13485, and other international standards. Partner closely with the Quality Assurance team on supplier audits and quality agreements.
Team Leadership & Talent Development
Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing global supply chain organization. Cultivate a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Implement talent development programs and succession plans to build a strong leadership pipeline within the function.
Performance Management & Analytics
Establish, track, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) across the supply chain. Utilize data analytics to drive insights, identify performance gaps, and implement corrective actions. Key metrics include On-Time-In-Full (OTIF), inventory turns, forecast accuracy, total landed cost, and supplier performance.
Technology & Systems Enablement
Drive the strategic use of technology to enhance supply chain visibility, efficiency, and decision-making. Lead initiatives for the optimization or implementation of systems such as ERP, Advanced Planning Systems (APS), Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), and Transportation Management Systems (TMS).
Cost Reduction & Continuous Improvement
Proactively identify and execute initiatives to reduce total supply chain costs. Champion a Lean/Six Sigma mindset to drive process improvements, eliminate waste, and enhance productivity throughout the value chain.
Requirements for the Director, Global Supply Chain with a MedTech Company – Minneapolis, MN
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related discipline is required. An MBA or other advanced degree is strongly preferred.
Professional Experience
A minimum of 12-15 years of progressive experience in supply chain management, with at least 7 years in a significant leadership capacity overseeing a global, multi-site supply chain organization.
Industry Expertise
Direct and substantial experience within the medical device, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or a similarly complex and highly regulated industry is mandatory. A deep understanding of GMP, FDA, and ISO 13485 requirements is essential.
Functional Expertise
Demonstrated mastery across all core supply chain disciplines, including demand/supply planning, S&OP, strategic sourcing, global logistics, inventory management, and manufacturing operations.
Leadership Acumen
Proven ability to lead and inspire large, geographically dispersed teams. A track record as a change agent who can successfully drive transformation and build a culture of excellence. Exceptional ability to influence stakeholders at all levels, including the executive suite.
Analytical & Strategic Skills
Superior strategic thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills. Must be highly proficient in using data to drive decisions and measure performance. Experience with financial analysis and budget management is critical.
Technical Proficiency
Extensive experience with Tier 1 ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and advanced supply chain planning and visibility tools.
Certifications
Professional certifications from organizations like APICS (e.g., CSCP, CPIM) or the Institute for Supply Management (e.g., CPSM) are highly desirable.
