Key Responsibilities of Chief Revenue Officer with a Supply Chain Software Co. – Chicago, IL
Revenue Strategy & Vision
Develop, articulate, and execute a comprehensive, multi-year revenue growth strategy that aligns with the company’s overall business objectives. Define and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) including ARR, Net Revenue Retention (NRR), LTV:CAC, sales cycle length, and pipeline conversion rates.
Executive Leadership
Serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, providing critical input on company strategy, market positioning, and long-term planning. Represent the company’s revenue function to the Board of Directors, investors, and other key stakeholders.
Team Building & Mentorship
Recruit, train, mentor, and lead a world-class team across sales (Enterprise, Mid-Market, SDRs), marketing, customer success, and revenue operations. Foster a culture of high performance, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Go-to-Market Execution
Architect and optimize the entire go-to-market motion. This includes defining ideal customer profiles, refining market segmentation, establishing pricing strategies, and identifying new market expansion opportunities.
Sales Excellence
Oversee all aspects of the sales organization. Implement and enforce a rigorous sales methodology (e.g., MEDDICC, Challenger Sale), manage the sales pipeline with precision, and lead strategic deal negotiations for key enterprise accounts. Drive a culture of predictable forecasting.
Marketing Alignment
Collaborate closely with the marketing leader to ensure tight alignment between sales and marketing. Guide the strategy for demand generation, account-based marketing (ABM), content marketing, and brand positioning to fuel the sales pipeline with high-quality leads.
Customer Success & Retention
Own the post-sale customer lifecycle. Oversee the customer success function to ensure successful onboarding, adoption, and value realization for all clients, driving world-class net revenue retention, and identifying upsell/cross-sell opportunities.
Revenue Operations (RevOps)
Build and lead a sophisticated RevOps function to provide the necessary data, processes, and technology stack (CRM, marketing automation, sales enablement tools) to support the entire revenue team. Use data analytics to drive insights and strategic decisions.
Channel & Partner Strategy
Develop and execute a strategic partner and channel ecosystem strategy to create new revenue streams and accelerate market penetration.
Requirements for the Chief Revenue Officer with a Supply Chain Software Co. – Chicago, IL
Executive Experience
A minimum of 15+ years of progressive experience in software sales and revenue leadership, with at least 5-7 years in a senior executive role (e.g., CRO, SVP of Sales/Revenue) for a B2B SaaS company.
Industry Domain Expertise
Deep, demonstrable experience and understanding of the supply chain, logistics, transportation management (TMS), or warehouse management (WMS) software industry is strongly required.
Proven Scaling Track Record
A quantifiable track record of success in scaling a SaaS company’s revenue, preferably from ~$20M ARR to $100M+ ARR. Experience in a venture capital or private equity-backed environment is highly desirable.
GTM Mastery
Expertise in designing and executing complex, multi-channel go-to-market strategies targeting mid-market and enterprise customers. Experience with both direct sales and channel/partner models.
Leadership Acumen
Exceptional leadership and people management skills with a history of building, developing, and inspiring high-performing, geographically distributed teams. A true ‘player-coach’ mentality.
Data-Driven & Analytical
A highly analytical and metrics-driven approach to revenue management. Must be fluent in SaaS metrics and an expert in using data to forecast, plan, and optimize performance.
Operational Rigor
Strong background in building and managing a robust Revenue Operations function. Expertise with modern sales and marketing technology stacks, particularly Salesforce.com.
Communication Skills
World-class communication, presentation, and negotiation skills. The ability to articulate a compelling vision and build strong relationships with customers, partners, investors, and employees at all levels.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field is required. An MBA is highly preferred.
Location
Must be based in or willing to relocate to the greater Chicago area to work in a hybrid model.
