Key Responsibilities of Chief Data and Analytics Officer – Chicago, IL

The Chief Data and Analytics Officer will have a broad and impactful remit. Your primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

Develop and Execute Enterprise Data Strategy

You will architect, articulate, and champion a comprehensive enterprise-wide data and analytics strategy that directly aligns with and accelerates the company’s strategic business objectives. This includes defining a clear roadmap for data architecture, technology platforms, talent development, and governance to transform the organization into a data-driven powerhouse.

Executive Leadership & Team Building

You will build, mentor, and lead a high-performing, centralized data and analytics organization. Establish Robust Data Governance

You will design and implement a comprehensive data governance framework, including policies, standards, and processes to ensure data quality, integrity, security, and privacy. You will be the ultimate owner of data stewardship across the enterprise, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.

Champion Advanced Analytics, AI, and Machine Learning

You will drive the adoption and application of advanced analytical techniques, including predictive modeling, machine learning, and artificial intelligence, to solve complex business problems. Oversee Business Intelligence and Reporting

Modernize Data Architecture and Infrastructure

In close partnership with the Chief Information Officer (CIO), you will lead the modernization of the company’s data architecture and technology stack. Drive Data-Driven Innovation

Foster Cross-Functional Collaboration

You will act as a key partner and advisor to executive leaders across all business units, including R&D, Clinical Affairs, Regulatory, Marketing, Sales, and Operations. You will work to deeply understand their challenges and proactively provide data-driven solutions.

Ensure Regulatory Compliance and Ethical Data Use

You will ensure that all data and analytics practices adhere to the strictest ethical standards and comply with relevant industry regulations, such as the FDA regulations for medical devices, HIPAA, and GDPR. You will be the champion for responsible data stewardship within the organization.

Requirements for the Chief Data and Analytics Officer – Chicago, IL

We are seeking an exceptional and experienced leader with a unique blend of technical depth, business acumen, and strategic vision. The qualifications for this role are stringent and reflect its senior executive nature.

Executive Experience

A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in data management, analytics, and data science, with at least 7 years in a senior leadership role (e.g., VP of Analytics, Head of Data Science) overseeing large, multi-functional teams. Prior CDAO experience is highly preferred.

Industry Expertise

Deep and demonstrable experience within the medical device, pharmaceutical, or broader life sciences industry is mandatory. A strong understanding of the unique data types and challenges in this sector, including clinical trial data, real-world evidence (RWE), genomic data, and device-generated data, is critical.

Technical Acumen

Strategic and Business-Oriented Mindset

Educational Background

An advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, or a related discipline is required. An MBA or equivalent business qualification is a significant asset.
