The Chief Medical Officer will serve as the senior clinical authority for the entire organization. This executive role is not just about oversight; it’s about vision, strategy, and execution. Key Responsibilities of Chief Medical Officer – Raleigh, NC

The CMO will have a broad range of responsibilities, encompassing the full lifecycle of our medical device portfolio. Your leadership will directly impact our ability to innovate safely and effectively.

Clinical Strategy & Vision

Develop and execute a comprehensive, forward-thinking clinical strategy that aligns with the company’s business objectives. Identify and evaluate new technologies and clinical applications to expand the product pipeline and drive long-term growth.

Regulatory & Compliance Leadership

Serve as the primary medical liaison with global regulatory agencies. Provide expert clinical guidance for all regulatory submissions, ensuring all products meet the rigorous FDA regulations for medical devices and other international standards. Oversee post-market surveillance and vigilance activities.

Clinical Development & Research

Oversee the design, execution, and analysis of all clinical trials, from early feasibility studies to large-scale pivotal trials and post-market studies. Ensure studies are conducted with the highest ethical and scientific standards, on time and within budget.

Medical Affairs & KOL Engagement

Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with Key Opinion Leaders, clinical investigators, and scientific advisors. Develop and lead a world-class Medical Affairs function to support product launches, disseminate clinical data, and gather critical market insights.

Product Development & Innovation

Act as the clinical voice in the product development process. Collaborate closely with R&D and engineering teams to define product requirements, evaluate new designs, and ensure that new products meet unmet clinical needs and user requirements.

Patient Safety & Risk Management

Champion a culture of patient safety across the organization. Oversee all medical safety and pharmacovigilance activities, including the review of adverse event data and the development of risk management plans.

Scientific Communication

Represent the company at major medical and scientific conferences. Oversee the development of clinical publications, white papers, and presentations to effectively communicate the value of our technology to the medical community.

Executive Leadership & Team Development

Recruit, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of clinical and medical professionals. Foster a collaborative, innovative, and results-oriented culture within the medical organization.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Work seamlessly with commercial teams (Sales and Marketing) to develop effective training materials, messaging, and strategies. Provide clinical expertise to support business development activities, including due diligence for potential acquisitions or partnerships.

Requirements for the Chief Medical Officer – Raleigh, NC

We are seeking a seasoned and accomplished medical executive with a proven track record of success in the medical device industry. The qualifications for this critical role include:

Medical Doctorate

An MD or DO from an accredited institution is required.

Board Certification

Current board certification in a relevant medical specialty is strongly preferred.

Industry Experience

A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in clinical medicine and the life sciences industry, with at least 10 years spent specifically within the medical device sector.

Leadership Experience

A minimum of 7 years in a senior leadership role (e.g., Vice President, Senior Medical Director) with significant team management and strategic planning responsibilities. Prior CMO experience is highly desirable.

Regulatory Expertise

Deep, hands-on experience with global regulatory processes, particularly with the FDA (PMA, 510(k)) and CE marking pathways. Proven success in guiding products through regulatory approval.

Clinical Trial Mastery

Extensive experience in all phases of clinical trial design, execution, and data interpretation (IDE, pivotal, post-market). Strong understanding of GCP, ISO 14155, and other relevant clinical standards.

Scientific Acumen

Demonstrated ability to critically analyze scientific and clinical data. A history of scientific publications and presentations at major conferences is a significant asset.

Business Acumen

Strong understanding of the commercial aspects of the medical device industry. Experience with product launches, market access, and health economics is highly beneficial. An MBA or other advanced business degree is a plus.

Communication Skills

Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills. The ability to communicate complex medical and scientific concepts clearly to a variety of audiences, from engineers to investors to clinicians.

Location

Must be based in or willing to relocate to the Raleigh, NC area. This is an executive, in-office leadership position requiring a significant presence.
