Key Responsibilities of Chief Medical Officer – New York, NY

The Chief Medical Officer will be responsible for a wide range of critical functions, including but not limited to:

Clinical and Medical Strategy Leadership

Spearhead the development and execution of the company’s overarching clinical and medical strategy, ensuring it aligns perfectly with business objectives, market needs, and long-term growth targets. Act as the primary clinical voice on the executive leadership team, providing critical insights that shape corporate direction, product portfolio, and investment priorities.

Regulatory & Compliance Oversight

Provide executive oversight for all regulatory submissions and interactions with global regulatory bodies. Clinical Development & Trial Excellence

Direct the entire lifecycle of clinical trials, from initial protocol design, feasibility assessment, and site selection to execution, data analysis, and final reporting. Foster a culture of scientific rigor and operational excellence within the clinical operations team, ensuring trials are conducted on time, within budget, and in full compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and other applicable guidelines.

Medical Affairs & Safety

Build and lead a world-class medical affairs function to support product launches and commercial activities. Oversee all patient safety and pharmacovigilance activities, ensuring robust systems are in place for risk management, adverse event reporting, and post-market surveillance to guarantee the highest standards of patient safety.

Scientific & Medical Communications

Direct the company’s scientific communication strategy, including the development of publications, abstracts, and presentations for major medical congresses. Serve as the company’s primary spokesperson on medical and scientific matters, effectively communicating clinical data and the value proposition of the company’s technology to diverse audiences.

Key Opinion Leader (KOL) Engagement

Cultivate and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with a global network of Key Opinion Leaders, principal investigators, and scientific advisors. Leverage these relationships to gather insights, validate clinical strategies, and champion the company’s technology within the medical community.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Leadership

Work in close partnership with R&D, Engineering, Commercial, and Business Development teams. Provide essential clinical input to guide product design, inform marketing strategies, and evaluate potential M&A or licensing opportunities. Build, mentor, and inspire a high-performing team of medical and clinical professionals.

Budget and Resource Management

Develop and manage the annual budget for the clinical, medical affairs, and regulatory departments, ensuring optimal allocation of resources to achieve strategic goals and corporate milestones.

Requirements for the Chief Medical Officer – New York, NY

The successful candidate will possess a distinguished track record of medical leadership and achievement within the medical device sector. Specific qualifications include:

Medical & Educational Credentials

Must possess a Medical Doctorate (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) from an accredited institution. Board certification in a relevant clinical specialty is highly preferred. An advanced degree such as an MBA, MPH, or Ph.D. is a significant asset.

Executive Industry Experience

A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in the medical device or biopharmaceutical industry, with at least 7-10 years in a senior leadership capacity (e.g., Vice President, Senior Medical Director, or existing CMO).

Medical Device Expertise

Demonstrable, hands-on experience in the medical device industry is mandatory. A proven track record of successfully leading device products through the full development lifecycle, from concept and clinical trials to regulatory approval and commercialization.
