Key Responsibilities of Director of Product Management (Med Device)
Strategic Vision & Roadmap Development
Define, articulate, and champion the long-term product vision and strategy for assigned medical device portfolios. Develop and maintain comprehensive product roadmaps that align with business objectives, market opportunities, and technological capabilities.
Market Research & Analysis
Conduct extensive market research, competitive analysis, and customer segmentation to identify unmet clinical needs, emerging trends, and new growth opportunities. Leverage data-driven insights to inform product decisions and strategic planning.
Product Lifecycle Management (PLC)
Oversee the entire product lifecycle from ideation and concept generation through development, launch, commercialization, and eventual end-of-life planning. Ensure a seamless transition between development phases and market introduction.
Cross-functional Leadership & Collaboration
Act as the central hub for product-related activities, fostering strong collaboration with R&D, Engineering, Marketing, Sales, Regulatory Affairs, Clinical Affairs, Quality Assurance, and Manufacturing teams. Drive alignment and accountability across functions.
Regulatory & Quality Compliance
Ensure all product development and commercialization activities adhere to global medical device regulations (e.g., FDA, CE Mark, ISO 13485). Work closely with regulatory and quality teams to achieve necessary clearances and approvals.
Go-to-Market Strategy & Launch
Develop and execute comprehensive go-to-market strategies, including product positioning, messaging, pricing, sales force training, and promotional activities. Lead successful product launches that achieve market adoption and revenue targets.
Financial Performance & P&L Ownership
Manage the financial performance of assigned product lines, including revenue forecasting, budgeting, and profitability analysis. Identify opportunities for cost optimization and revenue growth.
Voice of Customer (VOC) & User Experience (UX)
Act as the primary advocate for the customer and user. Gather and synthesize customer feedback, conduct usability studies, and translate insights into clear product requirements and user-centric designs.

Requirements for the Director of Product Management (Med Device)
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Marketing, Business, Life Sciences, or a related field is required. An MBA or advanced degree is highly preferred.
Experience
Minimum of 10-12 years of progressive experience in product management, with at least 5-7 years specifically within the medical device industry. Experience with Class II or Class III medical devices is essential.
Regulatory Expertise
Demonstrated understanding and proven experience navigating the complex global regulatory landscape for medical devices (e.g., FDA 510(k), PMA, CE Mark, EU MDR).
Strategic Acumen
