Strategic Sourcing Leadership
Develop, implement, and continuously refine the comprehensive global sourcing strategy for all product categories. This includes conducting in-depth market analysis, identifying new sourcing regions, and establishing long-range plans to mitigate risk, drive cost efficiencies, and support the company’s aggressive growth and innovation pipeline. You will be responsible for setting the vision for how and where the company’s products are made, ensuring alignment with brand values and financial targets.
Supplier Portfolio Management
Oversee the identification, evaluation, onboarding, and performance management of a diverse, global network of factories, mills, and vendors. You will build and nurture strong, strategic partnerships with key suppliers, moving beyond transactional relationships to foster collaboration and joint value creation. This involves establishing rigorous performance scorecards, conducting regular business reviews, and ensuring the supply base has the capability and capacity to meet future demands.
Cost Engineering & Negotiation
Lead all major contract and price negotiations to achieve aggressive cost-saving targets without compromising on quality, speed, or compliance. Champion total cost of ownership (TCO) models that consider logistics, duties, quality, and currency impacts. You will instill a culture of fiscal discipline within your team, leveraging data analytics and market intelligence to drive informed negotiation strategies.
Quality Assurance & Product Excellence
Partner with the Quality Assurance department to establish and enforce stringent quality standards across the entire supply chain. You will ensure that all suppliers adhere to product specifications, testing protocols, and manufacturing best practices. The ultimate goal is to protect brand integrity and deliver products that consistently exceed customer expectations.
Ethical Sourcing & Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
Uphold and advance the company’s commitment to ethical and sustainable business practices. You will be responsible for ensuring the entire supply chain is compliant with all social, environmental, and governance standards, including local labor laws, international regulations, and company-specific codes of conduct. You will lead initiatives related to sustainable and ethical sourcing practices, material traceability, and reducing the company’s environmental footprint.
Supply Chain Agility & Risk Mitigation
Proactively identify and mitigate potential risks within the global supply chain, including geopolitical instability, trade policy changes, transportation disruptions, and raw material volatility. You will develop and implement robust contingency plans and diversification strategies to ensure business continuity and build a resilient, agile supply chain capable of responding to a rapidly changing world.
Team Leadership & Talent Development
Build, lead, mentor, and inspire a high-performing global sourcing organization. You will foster a collaborative and results-oriented environment, setting clear objectives and providing the necessary resources and professional development opportunities for your team to succeed. This includes structuring the department for optimal efficiency and scalability.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Influence
Serve as a key strategic partner to leaders in Product Development, Design, Merchandising, Planning, and Logistics. Requirements for the VP, Global Sourcing with a Major Retailer – Los Angeles, CA
Executive Experience
A minimum of 15+ years of progressive experience in global sourcing, procurement, and supply chain management, with at least 7 years in a senior leadership capacity (Director level or above) overseeing a large, global team.
Industry Expertise
Deep and direct experience within the retail, apparel, consumer packaged goods (CPG), or a related fast-moving consumer-facing industry is absolutely essential. You must understand the pace, calendar, and nuances of bringing consumer products to a competitive market.
Educational Background
A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Finance, or a related field is required. An MBA or other advanced degree is highly preferred.
