The VP, Corporate Tax & Audit will have a broad and impactful range of responsibilities, including but not limited to:

Global Tax Strategy and Planning

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the company’s global tax strategy in alignment with its business goals, ensuring tax efficiency while managing risk.
  • Proactively identify and analyze the impact of new and proposed tax legislation, regulations, and judicial decisions on the company’s operations and financial position, providing actionable recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Lead all aspects of international tax planning, including transfer pricing policies, foreign tax credit optimization, and management of the company’s legal entity structure.
  • Provide strategic tax guidance on all mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and other significant corporate transactions, from due diligence through integration.
  • Oversee the evaluation and implementation of tax planning opportunities, including R&D tax credits and other federal and state incentives.

Tax Reporting and Compliance

  • Oversee the entire global income tax provision process, ensuring accurate and timely calculation and reporting in accordance with ASC 740 (Income Taxes).
  • Manage the preparation and review of all tax-related disclosures in the company’s SEC filings, including the 10-K and 10-Q reports.
  • Ensure timely and accurate filing of all federal, state, local, and international corporate income and indirect tax returns.
  • Maintain ownership of the company’s tax-related internal controls and ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the external auditors on all tax-related matters.

Tax Audits and Controversy

  • Lead and manage all federal, state, and international tax audits and examinations by tax authorities.
  • Develop and execute strategies for effectively defending the company’s tax positions and negotiate favorable resolutions of tax disputes.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with tax authorities and external advisors to stay ahead of potential issues.
  • Assess and manage uncertain tax positions (FIN 48), ensuring appropriate documentation and reserves are maintained.

Leadership and Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing global tax and audit team, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented environment.
  • Set clear goals and objectives for the department, manage performance, and support the professional development of team members.
  • Champion the use of technology and process improvements to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the tax and audit functions.

Requirements for the VP, Corporate Tax & Audit with a Public Technology Co. – Austin, TX

We are seeking a candidate who meets the following qualifications:

Educational and Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is required.
  • A Master’s degree in Taxation (MST), a Juris Doctor (JD), or a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Taxation is highly preferred.

Experience and Technical Expertise

  • A minimum of 15+ years of progressive corporate tax experience, with a combination of Big 4 public accounting and in-house leadership roles within a multinational, publicly-traded company.
  • Minimum of 7 years in a senior leadership capacity, managing a global tax function and team.
  • Extensive, in-depth knowledge of U.S. GAAP, specifically ASC 740, and extensive experience with SEC reporting requirements.
  • Demonstrated expertise in complex tax areas, including international tax (transfer pricing, BEPS, foreign tax credits), M&A, and federal and state tax compliance.
  • Proven experience successfully managing and resolving complex tax audits with the IRS and other major tax authorities.
  • Experience within the technology or software/SaaS industry is strongly preferred.

Education

Certification

Experience

A minimum of 15+ years of progressive and relevant experience in corporate tax and/or audit. A combination of experience in a “Big 4” public accounting firm and a publicly-traded, multinational corporation is highly desirable. Significant experience within the technology industry is a major plus.
