The Director of Logistics Engineering will have a broad and impactful scope of responsibilities, requiring a blend of strategic leadership, technical expertise, and cross-functional collaboration. Your primary duties will include:

Strategic Leadership & Solution Design

Develop and execute the long-term strategic vision for the logistics engineering department. Lead the design and engineering of innovative, data-driven supply chain solutions for prospective and existing clients, playing a key role in the business development and RFP/RFQ response process.

Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement

Champion a culture of continuous improvement across the organization. Utilize Lean, Six Sigma, and other methodologies to identify inefficiencies, streamline workflows, and standardize best practices across all facilities. Technology & Automation Integration

Team Leadership & Development

Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of logistics engineers and analysts. Facility & Network Optimization

Oversee the design, layout, and optimization of new and existing distribution centers. Your work will ensure maximum space utilization, labor efficiency, and operational flow.

Data Analysis & Performance Management

Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for all engineering and operational processes. Prepare and present detailed reports and findings to the executive team and key stakeholders.

Financial Acumen & Budget Management

Develop and manage the annual budget for the engineering department. Create detailed financial models, cost-benefit analyses, and capital expenditure requests to justify new projects and investments, ensuring alignment with the company’s overall financial objectives.

Client & Stakeholder Collaboration

Serve as the primary engineering subject matter expert in client-facing interactions. Collaborate closely with Operations, IT, Sales, and Finance leaders to ensure seamless integration and execution of logistics solutions, fostering strong partnerships both internally and externally.

Requirements for the Director of Logistics Engineering with a Third-Party Logistics (3PL) – Indianapolis, IN

We are seeking a highly qualified candidate who possesses a unique combination of technical skill, leadership experience, and strategic vision. The ideal candidate will meet the following qualifications:

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Operations Research, or a related technical field is required. A Master’s degree (MBA or MS) is highly preferred.

Experience

A minimum of 10-12 years of progressive experience in logistics or supply chain engineering, with at least 5 years in a significant leadership or management role. Crucially, this experience must include substantial time working within a Third-Party Logistics (3PL) or multi-client distribution environment.

Technical Proficiency

Expert-level knowledge of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and Transportation Management Systems (TMS). Proficiency in facility design software such as AutoCAD. Strong experience with data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., SQL, Microsoft Excel, Tableau, Power BI). Experience with network modeling and simulation software (e.g., LLamasoft, AnyLogic) is a significant asset.

Methodology Expertise

Demonstrated mastery of continuous improvement principles, including Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma. A Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt certification is highly desirable.

Leadership Skills

Proven ability to build, lead, and inspire a team of technical professionals. Exceptional project management skills with a history of successfully leading complex, large-scale initiatives from conception to completion.

Communication & Interpersonal Skills

Superior verbal, written, and presentation skills. The ability to articulate complex technical concepts to a wide range of audiences, from engineers to C-level executives and clients, is essential. Strong negotiation and influencing skills are required.
