Key Responsibilities of VP, Global Procurement Category Lead with a Major CPG – Bentonville, AR
The VP, Global Procurement Category Lead will have a broad and impactful scope of responsibilities, including but not limited to:
Global Category Strategy Development & Execution
Architect, implement, and continuously refine comprehensive global sourcing strategies for key categories (e.g., raw materials, packaging, ingredients, marketing, IT, logistics). Conduct in-depth market analysis, commodity tracking, and risk assessments to inform multi-year strategic roadmaps that deliver on cost, quality, and innovation goals.
Strategic Sourcing & Supplier Management
Lead the end-to-end strategic sourcing process, from RFx development to complex, high-stakes negotiations and contract finalization. Develop and champion a world-class Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) program to foster strategic partnerships, drive supplier-led innovation, and monitor performance through robust KPIs and scorecards.
Leadership & Global Team Development
Provide inspirational leadership and direction to a global team of category managers and procurement professionals. Cultivate a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement. Mentor and develop talent within the organization, building a strong succession pipeline and ensuring the team has the skills needed for future challenges.
Financial Acumen & Value Creation
Own the financial performance of your assigned categories, including budget development, cost savings targets, and PPV (Purchase Price Variance) forecasting. Implement advanced cost modeling and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) analysis to identify and capture value beyond unit price reduction.
Risk Mitigation & Supply Chain Resilience
Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate supply chain risks, including geopolitical instability, supplier financial health, and raw material volatility. Develop and implement robust business continuity plans and diversification strategies to ensure an uninterrupted supply of critical goods and services.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Stakeholder Influence
Serve as a strategic business partner to key internal stakeholders. Build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with leaders in R&D, Supply Chain, Operations, Marketing, and Finance to ensure procurement initiatives are aligned with new product development, sustainability goals, and overall business strategy. Requirements for the VP, Global Procurement Category Lead with a Major CPG – Bentonville, AR
We are seeking a candidate with a distinguished career in procurement and a demonstrated ability to lead in a complex, global environment. The successful candidate will possess:
Educational Background
A Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, Finance, or a related field is required. An MBA or other advanced degree is highly preferred.
Executive Experience
A minimum of 15+ years of progressive experience in strategic procurement and global sourcing, with at least 7-10 years in a significant leadership capacity managing large, geographically dispersed teams.
Industry Expertise
Deep and extensive experience within the CPG, Food & Beverage, or a closely related manufacturing industry is essential. Must have a strong understanding of the relevant commodity markets, supplier landscape, and operational nuances.
Proven Track Record
Demonstrable success in managing a large annual spend portfolio (in excess of $1 billion) and consistently delivering multi-million dollar cost savings and value creation. Must provide examples of transformative strategic initiatives led.
Negotiation & Contracting Prowess
Master-level negotiation skills with a history of successfully leading complex, multi-faceted deals with global suppliers. Expertise in drafting and managing complex commercial contracts.
