Strategic Leadership & Vision
Define and articulate a compelling R&D vision and long-term technology roadmap that aligns with the company’s strategic business objectives. Champion innovation across the organization and foster a culture that encourages experimentation and calculated risk-taking.
Team Development & Management
Lead, mentor, and inspire a high-performing, multidisciplinary R&D team. Attract, develop, and retain top-tier engineering and research talent. Establish clear goals, provide regular feedback, and empower team members to achieve excellence.
Product Development Lifecycle Management
Oversee the end-to-end product development process, from concept to launch. Implement and refine best-practice methodologies (e.g., Agile, Stage-Gate) to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Technology & Innovation Scouting
Continuously monitor the competitive landscape and stay abreast of the latest advancements in process automation, robotics, IIoT, and AI/ML. Identify and evaluate emerging technologies, potential acquisition targets, and strategic partnerships to accelerate innovation.
Budget & Resource Management
Develop and manage the annual R&D budget, ensuring optimal allocation of financial and human resources to high-priority projects. Provide accurate forecasting and reporting on R&D expenditures and project ROI.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Foster strong, collaborative relationships with other key departments, including Product Management, Engineering, Operations, Sales, and Marketing. Ensure seamless communication and alignment to facilitate successful product launches and market adoption.
Intellectual Property (IP) Strategy
In partnership with legal counsel, develop and execute a robust IP strategy to protect the company’s innovations. Oversee the patent application process and manage the existing patent portfolio.
Quality & Compliance Assurance
Ensure all new products and technologies meet or exceed industry standards, safety regulations, and customer quality expectations. Implement rigorous testing and validation protocols throughout the development process.
Executive Reporting & Communication
Regularly present R&D strategy, project status, and key performance indicators to the executive leadership team and Board of Directors. Clearly articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned R&D leader with a proven track record of bringing innovative, complex industrial products to market. You are a strategic thinker with deep technical expertise and exceptional leadership qualities.
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
- A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in research and development, with at least 7-10 years in a senior leadership role (Director, VP, or CTO level).
- Extensive experience within the industrial equipment, manufacturing, or process automation industries.
- Demonstrated success in leading and managing large, multidisciplinary engineering and research teams.
- Proven track record of successfully developing and commercializing new technologies and products, from concept through to market launch.
- Strong financial acumen with experience managing significant R&D budgets and resources effectively.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills:
- Deep subject matter expertise in modern automation technologies, including PLC/DCS, robotics, machine vision, IIoT, predictive analytics, and AI/ML applications in an industrial context.
- Experience with global product development and managing geographically dispersed teams.
- Strong understanding of intellectual property law and experience in developing and managing a patent portfolio.
- Exceptional strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate business needs into a technical strategy.
- Outstanding communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and build consensus at all levels of the organization.
- A passion for innovation and a relentless drive to challenge the status quo and push technological boundaries.
- Experience with Lean product development and Agile methodologies is highly desirable.
