Key Responsibilities of Operating Partner, Technology with a Private Equity Group – Menlo Park, CA
The Technology Operating Partner will have a broad and dynamic set of responsibilities, spanning the entire investment lifecycle. Success in this role will be measured by the successful implementation of technology strategies that lead to increased revenue, improved margins, and enhanced enterprise value across the portfolio.
Pre-Acquisition Due Diligence
Collaborate with the deal team to conduct comprehensive technology and product diligence on potential investment targets. This includes assessing the target’s technology stack, software architecture, scalability, security posture, product roadmap, and the capabilities of the engineering and product teams. You will be responsible for identifying key risks and opportunities and quantifying their potential impact on the investment thesis.
Value Creation Planning & Execution
Post-acquisition, you will partner with portfolio company management to develop and execute a strategic 100-day plan and a long-term technology and product roadmap. This involves identifying key areas for improvement, such as modernizing legacy systems, migrating to the cloud, implementing agile methodologies, improving data analytics capabilities, and enhancing cybersecurity protocols.
Portfolio Company Leadership & Support
Act as a trusted advisor and mentor to portfolio company CEOs, CTOs, and CPOs. Provide expert guidance on organizational design, talent acquisition and retention, and building high-performing technology teams. You will help leadership navigate complex technical challenges and make critical decisions that align with the overall business strategy.
Operational Excellence & Best Practices
Develop and institutionalize a playbook of technology best practices to be deployed across the portfolio. This includes establishing standards for software development life cycles (SDLC), DevOps, quality assurance, IT governance, and vendor management. You will facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration among the technology leaders within the portfolio.
Digital Transformation & Innovation
Champion digital transformation initiatives that drive growth and competitive advantage. This may include developing new digital products, enhancing customer experience through technology, leveraging data and AI for business insights, and implementing e-commerce or SaaS business models.
Performance Monitoring & Reporting
Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of technology initiatives. You will provide regular, insightful updates to the PE firm’s investment committee and portfolio company boards on progress, challenges, and outcomes.
Exit Strategy Support
Prepare portfolio companies for a successful exit (e.g., sale to a strategic acquirer or another financial sponsor, or an IPO). This involves ensuring the technology platform is stable, scalable, well-documented, and positioned to withstand the scrutiny of buyer due diligence.

The ideal candidate is a strategic, results-oriented technology leader with a proven track record of driving growth and operational improvement in software and technology-enabled companies. We are seeking an individual with exceptional leadership presence, deep technical knowledge, and strong business acumen.
Executive Experience
A minimum of 15-20 years of progressive leadership experience in technology, culminating in a role such as Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Chief Information Officer (CIO), Chief Product Officer (CPO), or VP of Engineering within a successful, high-growth technology company. Experience as a successful founder is also highly valued.
Operational Background
Demonstrable experience in both building and scaling technology organizations. The ideal candidate will have experience in a variety of environments, including venture-backed startups, private equity-owned companies, and larger, more established enterprises. Prior experience working directly with or for a private equity firm is a significant advantage.
Technical Acumen
Deep and broad expertise across the technology landscape. This includes a strong understanding of modern software architecture (e.g., microservices, APIs), cloud computing (AWS, Azure, GCP), data strategy (data warehousing, analytics, AI/ML), cybersecurity best practices, and agile/DevOps methodologies. A critical requirement is a keen understanding of key technology trends and their practical business applications.
Financial & Business Acumen
Strong command of business fundamentals and financial principles. Experience with M&A activities is essential.
Leadership & Influence

Education
