This executive leadership position, based in the vibrant financial hub of San Francisco, CA, is a critical role responsible for the integrity of the firm’s global accounting operations and financial reporting. The successful candidate will be a cornerstone of the finance leadership team, reporting directly to the Chief Accounting Officer (CAO) and working closely with the CFO and other C-suite executives.
As the SVP, Corporate Controller, you will be entrusted with leading a large, international team of accounting professionals. You will direct all aspects of accounting, including the monthly and quarterly close processes, SEC reporting (10-K, 10-Q), technical accounting, internal controls (SOX), and the implementation of accounting policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities of SVP, Corporate Controller with a Global FinServ Firm – San Francisco, CA
The SVP, Corporate Controller will have a broad and impactful scope of responsibilities, including but not limited to:
Global Accounting Operations
Oversee and direct all global accounting functions, including the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, and payroll. Ensure the monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close processes are executed accurately, efficiently, and on time across all international entities.
SEC and Regulatory Reporting
Lead the preparation and filing of all external financial reports, including Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, and proxy statements. Ensure all disclosures are accurate and in compliance with SEC regulations and U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Liaise with legal counsel, external auditors, and the disclosure committee.
Technical Accounting Leadership
Serve as the company’s subject matter expert on complex technical accounting issues. Proactively research, interpret, and implement new accounting pronouncements and standards, assessing their impact on the firm’s financial statements and operations. Author and maintain the company’s global accounting policies.
Internal Controls and SOX Compliance
Maintain and enhance a robust internal control environment in compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX). Oversee the design, implementation, and testing of controls, and coordinate with both internal and external auditors to ensure the integrity of financial reporting.
Team Leadership and Development
Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing global accounting organization. Foster a culture of excellence, continuous improvement, collaboration, and professional growth. Set clear goals, provide regular feedback, and manage resource allocation effectively.
Process Improvement and Automation
Champion initiatives to streamline and automate accounting processes and systems. Identify opportunities to leverage technology to increase efficiency, enhance accuracy, and improve the scalability of the accounting function. Partner with IT and other stakeholders to implement new financial systems and tools.
Strategic Business Partnership
Collaborate closely with senior leadership across the organization, including FP&A, Treasury, Tax, and business unit leaders. Provide critical financial data and analysis to support strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting, and M&A activities.
Audit Management
Manage the relationship with the company’s independent external auditors. Oversee the planning and execution of the annual financial audit and quarterly reviews, ensuring a smooth and efficient process.

The ideal candidate will be a seasoned and credentialed accounting executive with a proven track record of success in complex, global organizations. Specific qualifications include:
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required. An MBA or other advanced degree is highly preferred.
Certification
An active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license is mandatory.
Experience
A minimum of 15+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, with at least 7 years in a senior leadership capacity (e.g., Corporate Controller, Assistant Controller, Director of Accounting) within a publicly traded, global corporation.
Industry Expertise
Significant experience within the financial services industry is essential. This includes, but is not limited to, asset management, investment banking, brokerage, or fintech.
Public Accounting Foundation
Experience at a ‘Big 4’ or large national public accounting firm is strongly preferred, providing a strong foundation in audit and technical accounting.
Technical Proficiency
Deep and comprehensive knowledge of U.S. GAAP, IFRS, and SEC reporting requirements. Proven expertise in navigating complex accounting transactions and implementing new standards.
Leadership Skills
Demonstrated ability to lead, manage, and motivate a large, geographically dispersed team. A track record of developing talent and building a world-class accounting function.
Communication and Influence
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. The ability to distill complex financial concepts and present them clearly and concisely to executive leadership, the Board of Directors, and other key stakeholders.
Systems Acumen
Hands-on experience with large-scale ERP systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP, Workday Financials) and financial reporting tools.
Strategic Mindset
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills. The ability to operate at both the strategic and tactical levels.
