Key Responsibilities of Chief Financial Officer with a Venture-Backed SaaS – Boston, MA
As the Chief Financial Officer, you will have a broad mandate covering the entire financial and administrative landscape of the organization. Your responsibilities will be pivotal to the company’s operational excellence and strategic growth:
Strategic Financial Leadership
Serve as a key strategic partner to the CEO, board, and executive team. Develop and execute the company’s long-term financial vision and strategy. Provide critical financial insights and recommendations on all major business decisions, including new market entry, pricing strategies, and M&A opportunities.
Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)
Lead the annual budgeting and long-range planning processes. Drive a sophisticated forecasting model that provides accuracy and agility. Accounting, Control, and Reporting
Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, A/P, A/R, payroll, and revenue recognition, ensuring strict adherence to ASC 606. Guarantee the timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP. Manage the annual audit process and maintain a strong relationship with external auditors.
Treasury and Capital Management
Manage the company’s liquidity and cash flow to support operational needs and growth initiatives. Oversee banking relationships, debt facilities, and investment strategies. Develop and implement a robust capital allocation framework to maximize shareholder return.
Fundraising and Investor Relations
Lead the strategy and execution of future fundraising rounds (equity and debt). Build and maintain strong relationships with current investors, potential new investors, and the broader financial community. Prepare compelling board presentations, investor updates, and manage all aspects of the due diligence process.
Legal, Risk Management, and Compliance
Oversee the company’s legal function, managing corporate governance, cap table administration, and key contract negotiations (customer, vendor, partnership). Team Building and Leadership

Requirements for the Chief Financial Officer with a Venture-Backed SaaS – Boston, MA
We are seeking an exceptional individual with a blend of strategic acumen, operational expertise, and leadership prowess. The successful candidate will meet the following qualifications:
Experience
A minimum of 15 years of progressive financial experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role (CFO, VP of Finance) within a venture-backed B2B SaaS or enterprise software company is required.
Scaling Expertise
Demonstrable experience scaling a company through significant growth phases, ideally from ~$10M ARR to $100M ARR and beyond. You must have a playbook for navigating the challenges and opportunities of rapid expansion.
Fundraising Prowess
A proven track record of successfully raising institutional capital (Series B, C, D, etc.) and managing complex deal structures. You should have deep connections within the venture capital and private equity communities.
Technical Acumen
Deep expertise in SaaS business models, metrics, and revenue recognition (ASC 606). Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial modeling, and data analysis is essential.
Strategic Vision
Experience in M&A, from sourcing and due diligence to integration, is highly desirable. A background that includes preparing a company for an IPO or a successful strategic exit would be a significant advantage.
Leadership Qualities

Educational Background
