Role Overview for Director, M&A Integration with a Major Insurer – Hartford, CT
JRG Partners is proud to represent a premier, market-leading insurance organization in their search for a Director of M&A Integration. Based in the insurance capital of Hartford, CT, this is a rare opportunity to join a dynamic and forward-thinking company at a pivotal moment of strategic growth. Our client is actively expanding its footprint through targeted acquisitions, and this newly created role is central to ensuring the long-term success and value realization of these investments. The Director of M&A Integration will serve as the strategic linchpin, responsible for orchestrating the seamless and effective consolidation of acquired entities into the parent organization.
This is not merely a project management role; it is a high-impact leadership position that demands a unique blend of strategic vision, financial acumen, operational expertise, and exceptional interpersonal skills. You will be the primary driver of the post-merger integration (PMI) process, from the final stages of due diligence through to full operational and cultural assimilation. Reporting to the Head of Corporate Strategy, you will work closely with the C-suite, business unit leaders, and the leadership of acquired companies to develop and execute comprehensive integration roadmaps.
Your primary objective will be to maximize deal value by accelerating synergy capture, minimizing business disruption, and fostering a unified corporate culture. The ideal candidate is a seasoned professional who thrives in complex, cross-functional environments and has a proven track record of leading successful integrations within the financial services or insurance sectors. This position offers significant visibility across the enterprise and the opportunity to directly influence the future trajectory and competitive positioning of the organization.
Key Responsibilities of Director, M&A Integration with a Major Insurer – Hartford, CT
The Director of M&A Integration will be accountable for the end-to-end management of all post-acquisition integration activities. This includes, but is not limited to, the following key responsibilities:
Integration Strategy and Playbook Development
Lead the creation and refinement of the company’s M&A integration methodology and playbook. Develop standardized processes, tools, and templates to ensure a consistent, repeatable, and scalable approach to integration. For each transaction, you will customize this playbook to create a bespoke integration strategy that aligns with the specific deal thesis and strategic objectives.
Pre-Close Planning and Due Diligence Support
Actively participate in the later stages of the due diligence process to identify potential integration risks, operational challenges, and cultural misalignments. Begin formulating the high-level integration plan, establishing the governance structure, and identifying key functional leads before the deal is formally closed.
Cross-Functional Integration Leadership
Establish and lead the Integration Management Office (IMO). You will orchestrate the efforts of numerous cross-functional workstreams, including Information Technology, Human Resources, Finance, Legal, Compliance, Operations, Sales, and Marketing. You will be responsible for ensuring clear communication, alignment of goals, and effective collaboration across all teams.
Synergy Identification and Realization
Partner with Corporate Development and business unit leaders to validate, quantify, and develop detailed plans for capturing both cost and revenue synergies. Implement robust tracking and reporting mechanisms to monitor progress against synergy targets and hold workstream leads accountable for their delivery.
Program and Project Management
Develop and manage a comprehensive, master integration project plan, detailing all key activities, timelines, dependencies, and resource requirements. Proactively identify and mitigate risks and issues, and manage the overall integration budget. You will apply rigorous project management discipline to drive execution and ensure key milestones are achieved on time and within scope.
Stakeholder Management and Communication
Develop and execute a multi-faceted communications plan to keep all stakeholders informed and engaged throughout the integration lifecycle. This includes preparing and delivering executive-level presentations for the steering committee, providing regular updates to business leaders, and ensuring transparent communication with employees of both the acquiring and acquired organizations.
Change Management and Cultural Integration
Champion the change management efforts required for a successful integration. This involves conducting cultural assessments, developing strategies to align values and behaviors, and designing programs to foster a unified ‘one company’ culture. Your role is critical in retaining key talent and maintaining employee morale and productivity during the transition period.
Performance Measurement and Post-Mortem Analysis
Define key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the overall success of the integration against the original deal thesis. After each integration is substantially complete, you will lead a post-mortem analysis to capture lessons learned and identify opportunities for continuous improvement in the company’s M&A integration capabilities.
