As the VP of Data & Analytics, you will report directly to the Chief Technology Officer and will be a key voice in the company’s strategic planning processes. You will own the entire data lifecycle, from data acquisition and governance to advanced analytics, machine learning model development, and business intelligence. Your leadership will directly impact critical business functions, including underwriting, risk modeling, pricing, claims processing, fraud detection, and customer experience. Key Responsibilities of VP, Data & Analytics with an InsurTech Platform – Austin, TX
Strategic Leadership & Vision
Develop, articulate, and execute a comprehensive, long-term data and analytics strategy that aligns with and drives overall business objectives. Champion a data-first culture throughout the entire organization, from the C-suite to individual contributors.
Team Building & Mentorship
Recruit, lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing, multi-disciplinary team of data scientists, data engineers, BI analysts, and data governance specialists. Foster a collaborative, innovative, and results-oriented team environment.
Advanced Analytics & Machine Learning
Oversee the design, development, and deployment of sophisticated predictive models and machine learning algorithms to solve complex business problems in areas such as risk assessment, pricing optimization, customer lifetime value, churn prediction, and fraud detection.
Data Governance & Architecture
Establish and enforce a robust enterprise-wide data governance framework. Ensure data quality, integrity, security, and privacy across all systems. Partner with Engineering to design and maintain a scalable, modern data architecture, including data warehouses, data lakes, and ETL/ELT pipelines.
Business Intelligence & Reporting
Lead the BI function to deliver actionable insights and performance metrics to stakeholders across the company. Develop intuitive dashboards and reports that empower business users to make informed decisions quickly and effectively.
Stakeholder Collaboration
Act as the primary data evangelist and partner closely with executive leadership and heads of Product, Engineering, Marketing, Finance, and Operations to identify and prioritize business challenges that can be addressed through data analytics.
Innovation & Research
Stay at the forefront of emerging trends and technologies in data science, AI, and machine learning. Evaluate and implement new tools, technologies, and methodologies to enhance the company’s analytical capabilities and maintain a competitive edge by leveraging advanced analytics in the insurance sector.
Regulatory Compliance
Ensure all data practices and systems comply with relevant industry regulations and data privacy laws, such as GDPR, CCPA, and other local requirements.
Requirements for the VP, Data & Analytics with an InsurTech Platform – Austin, TX
Educational Background
An advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related discipline is strongly preferred.
Executive Experience
A minimum of 12-15 years of progressive experience in data science and analytics, with at least 7 years in a senior leadership capacity managing and scaling data teams.
Industry Expertise
Demonstrable experience within the InsurTech, insurance (P&C, Life & Health), or financial services industry is highly desirable. A deep understanding of insurance-specific data challenges and opportunities is a significant plus.
Technical Proficiency
- Expert-level knowledge of statistical analysis, predictive modeling, and machine learning techniques (e.g., regression, classification, clustering, NLP, deep learning).
- Hands-on proficiency with data science programming languages such as Python (e.g., pandas, scikit-learn, TensorFlow) or R.
- Extensive experience with modern data stack technologies, including cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), big data frameworks (e.g., Spark), and data warehousing solutions (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery).
- Strong familiarity with BI and data visualization tools like Tableau, Power BI, or Looker.
- Solid understanding of data modeling, ETL processes, and database technologies (SQL and NoSQL).

- Proven ability to build, lead, and inspire high-performing technical teams.
