Key Responsibilities of Director, Distribution Center Ops with a Logistics Company – Memphis, TN
As the Director, you will be the senior leader on-site, with a broad scope of responsibilities that are critical to the operational and financial health of the facility. Success in this role requires a blend of strategic planning, tactical execution, and inspirational leadership.
Strategic & Operational Leadership
Develop and execute a comprehensive strategy for the Memphis distribution center that aligns with corporate objectives. You will be responsible for translating high-level goals into actionable plans for your teams, overseeing all inbound, outbound, and inventory management functions including receiving, put-away, replenishment, picking, packing, and shipping.
Performance Management & KPIs
Establish, monitor, and drive key performance indicators (KPIs) across all areas of the operation. This includes, but is not limited to, order accuracy, on-time delivery, cost per unit, inventory accuracy, dock-to-stock time, and safety incident rates. You will use data analytics to identify trends, pinpoint areas for improvement, and implement effective countermeasures.
Financial & P&L Management
Take full ownership of the facility’s P&L. Develop, manage, and execute the annual operating budget, including labor planning, capital expenditures, and variable cost management. You will be expected to consistently identify and implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising quality or safety.
Team Development & Culture Building
Lead, mentor, and inspire a large and diverse team of managers, supervisors, and hourly associates. You will be responsible for fostering a positive, inclusive, and high-performance culture grounded in safety and accountability. This includes overseeing talent acquisition, performance management, succession planning, and providing ongoing coaching and development opportunities for your direct reports and high-potential employees.
Continuous Improvement & Process Optimization
Champion a culture of continuous improvement throughout the facility. Utilize methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, and 5S to streamline workflows, eliminate waste, and enhance productivity. You will lead projects to optimize facility layout, material flow, and leverage technology to its fullest potential. A deep understanding of the best practices in supply chain management will be critical to your success.
Technology & Systems Management
Oversee the effective use of the Warehouse Management System (WMS), Transportation Management System (TMS), and other supporting technologies. Partner with IT and engineering teams to troubleshoot issues, implement system upgrades, and identify new technologies that can provide a competitive advantage.
Safety, Security & Compliance
Uphold and enforce the highest standards of safety and security. Ensure the facility is fully compliant with all federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA, DOT, and environmental standards. You will lead the safety committee and drive initiatives to create a zero-incident work environment.
Client & Stakeholder Relations
Serve as the primary point of contact for key clients and internal stakeholders. Build strong, collaborative relationships to ensure service level agreements (SLAs) are consistently met or exceeded. Proactively communicate performance metrics, operational updates, and strategic initiatives.

We are seeking a seasoned professional with a deep understanding of complex distribution environments and the leadership qualities to drive significant results.
Educational Background
A Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field is required. An MBA or other advanced degree is highly preferred.
Professional Experience
A minimum of 10-12 years of progressive experience in distribution, logistics, or fulfillment operations, with at least 5-7 years in a senior leadership role (e.g., General Manager, Senior Operations Manager, Director) overseeing a large-scale facility (250,000+ sq. ft.) and a large team (150+ associates).
Leadership Acumen
Demonstrated ability to lead, influence, and develop a large, multi-level organization. Must have a servant leadership mindset with a proven history of building engaged, high-performing teams and developing future leaders.
Financial Expertise
Strong financial acumen is essential. You must have direct experience managing a P&L statement, developing and controlling multi-million dollar budgets, and conducting financial analysis to support business decisions.
Continuous Improvement Expertise
Formal training and practical application of Lean, Six Sigma, or similar continuous improvement principles are required. A Black Belt or Green Belt certification is a significant asset.
Technical Proficiency
Expert-level knowledge of modern Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) is mandatory. Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle), TMS, and the Microsoft Office Suite is also required.
Analytical Skills
Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills. Must be comfortable working with large data sets to identify root causes, drive insights, and make informed, data-backed decisions.
Communication Skills
Superior verbal, written, and presentation skills. Must be able to communicate effectively and build relationships with everyone from front-line associates to C-level executives and key clients.
