Key Responsibilities of Chief Accounting Officer with a Global Logistics Firm – Dallas, TX

The Chief Accounting Officer will have a broad range of responsibilities, encompassing the full spectrum of accounting functions. Your primary mandate is to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of all financial data and reporting. Key duties include:

Global Financial Reporting & SEC Compliance

  • Lead the preparation and review of all external financial reports, including quarterly (10-Q) and annual (10-K) SEC filings, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee the accurate and timely consolidation of global financial statements in accordance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and IFRS where applicable.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the external auditors, managing the annual audit and quarterly review processes efficiently and effectively.
  • Research, interpret, and implement new and complex accounting pronouncements and SEC regulations, ensuring the company’s accounting policies are current and appropriate.
  • Prepare and present financial materials for the Audit Committee and Board of Directors.

Accounting Operations & Close Process

  • Direct and oversee all global accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and revenue recognition.
  • Ensure a disciplined, timely, and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process across all global entities.
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for the accounting department to drive efficiency and accuracy.
  • Streamline and automate accounting processes to improve efficiency, reduce manual effort, and enhance controls.

Internal Controls & SOX Compliance

  • Maintain and enhance a robust system of internal controls over financial reporting to safeguard company assets and ensure data integrity.
  • Lead the company’s Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance program, including risk assessment, control design, testing, and remediation.
  • Partner with the internal audit function to proactively identify and mitigate financial risks.

Strategic Leadership & Team Development

  • Provide strong leadership, mentorship, and professional development to a large, geographically dispersed accounting team.
  • Foster a high-performance culture characterized by accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Structure the accounting organization to effectively support the company’s strategic growth objectives.
  • Act as a key strategic partner to the CFO and other executive leaders, providing critical financial insights and analysis to support decision-making.
  • Play a pivotal role in the financial due diligence and integration of potential mergers and acquisitions.

Treasury, Tax & Systems

  • Oversee treasury functions, including cash management, forecasting, and banking relationships, to optimize liquidity and manage financial risk.
  • Partner with the finance and legal teams to oversee the company’s global tax strategy, planning, and compliance activities.
  • Drive the strategy for financial systems, including the optimization of the existing ERP system and the evaluation and implementation of new financial technologies to support scalability and efficiency.

Requirements for the Chief Accounting Officer with a Global Logistics Firm – Dallas, TX

We are seeking a seasoned and accomplished accounting executive who meets the following qualifications:

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.

    Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is mandatory.

  • An MBA or other advanced degree is highly preferred.

Professional Experience

  • A minimum of 15-20 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 7-10 years in a senior leadership capacity (e.g., Corporate Controller, VP of Accounting) within a complex, global organization.
  • Extensive experience with a publicly-traded company, including direct responsibility for SEC reporting (10-K, 10-Q) and SOX compliance, is required.
  • A strong foundation in public accounting with a ‘Big 4’ or large national firm is highly desirable.
  • Experience within the logistics, transportation, supply chain, or a related industrial sector is strongly preferred.
  • Proven experience leading large, international teams and managing a global accounting function.
  • Demonstrated experience with M&A, including due diligence and post-acquisition integration.
