Key Responsibilities of VP, Cloud Security with a leading MSP – Denver, CO

Strategic Vision and Leadership

Develop and execute a comprehensive, long-term strategy for the cloud security practice. Define the service roadmap, identify emerging threats and market opportunities, and establish the practice as a leader in the MSP space.

Service Portfolio Development

Architect, build, and manage a profitable and scalable portfolio of cloud security service offerings. This includes, but is not limited to, Managed Detection and Response (MDR) for cloud, Security Operations Center (SOC) as a Service, Cloud Security Posture Management (CSPM), vulnerability management, and compliance-as-a-service (e.g., for HIPAA, PCI DSS, SOC 2).

Team Building and Mentorship

Recruit, lead, and mentor a world-class team of cloud security architects, engineers, and analysts. Foster a culture of continuous learning, collaboration, innovation, and unwavering commitment to client success. Set clear objectives, provide regular feedback, and manage team performance.

P&L and Financial Management

Assume full ownership of the cloud security practice’s P&L. Develop and manage budgets, set pricing for service offerings, forecast revenue, and ensure the practice meets and exceeds its financial targets and profitability goals.

Client Engagement and Executive Advisory

Serve as the ultimate security authority and trusted advisor for key clients. Engage with C-level executives (CISOs, CIOs, CEOs) to understand their business challenges and align security strategies with their goals. Lead high-stakes pre-sales discussions and solution architecture presentations.

Operational Excellence and Service Delivery

Oversee the delivery of all cloud security services, ensuring the highest levels of quality, efficiency, and client satisfaction. Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and service level agreements (SLAs). Develop and refine incident response, threat hunting, and operational playbooks.

Technology and Vendor Strategy

Continuously evaluate the technology landscape to select and implement best-in-class security tools and platforms (e.g., SIEM, SOAR, EDR, CNAPP). Manage strategic relationships with technology partners and vendors to enhance service capabilities.

Thought Leadership and Market Presence

Represent the company as a cloud security expert at industry conferences, webinars, and events. Author white papers, blog posts, and other content to enhance the company’s brand and reputation as a thought leader in the cybersecurity community.

Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC)

Ensure that all service offerings and internal operations adhere to industry-leading cloud security best practices and relevant regulatory frameworks. Guide clients through complex compliance and audit processes.

Requirements for the VP, Cloud Security with a leading MSP – Denver, CO

Extensive Leadership Experience

A minimum of 15 years of experience in the cybersecurity field, with at least 7 years in a senior leadership role (Director, Sr. Director, VP) managing a technical security team and owning a business function.

MSP or Consulting Background

Demonstrable experience working for a Managed Service Provider (MSP), Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP), or a major technology consulting firm is highly required. You must understand the dynamics of a client-facing, service-oriented business model.

Deep Cloud Security Expertise

Expert-level knowledge of security principles and services across major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP). This includes identity and access management (IAM), network security (VPCs, security groups), data protection and encryption, container and serverless security (Docker, Kubernetes), and infrastructure as code (IaC) security.

Proven Business Acumen

Strong financial literacy with direct experience managing a P&L, developing business cases, creating service pricing models, and driving revenue growth.

Technical and Architectural Acumen

While this is a leadership role, a strong technical foundation is essential. You should be comfortable architecting complex security solutions and discussing technical details with architects and engineers.

Education and Certifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field. Top-tier industry certifications are highly desirable, such as CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional), CISM (Certified Information Security Manager), or CCSP (Certified Cloud Security Professional). Cloud-specific certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Security – Specialty, Azure Security Engineer Associate) are a significant plus.
