Key Responsibilities of VP, Data & Analytics with a leading Media Group – Seattle, WA

The VP, Data & Analytics will have a broad and impactful remit, overseeing the entire data lifecycle and its strategic application across the enterprise. Key responsibilities include:

Strategic Vision & Execution

Develop, articulate, and execute a forward-thinking data and analytics roadmap that aligns with and accelerates the company’s overarching strategic goals. You will be responsible for defining the vision for how data can be leveraged as a competitive advantage, securing executive buy-in, and leading the charge on its implementation across all business units.

Team Leadership & Development

Recruit, mentor, and lead a high-performing, multidisciplinary team of data scientists, data engineers, business intelligence analysts, and data governance specialists. You will foster a culture of intellectual curiosity, continuous learning, and collaborative innovation, empowering your team to tackle complex challenges and deliver exceptional results. This includes performance management, career pathing, and budget oversight for the department.

Data Ecosystem & Governance

Architect and oversee a scalable, secure, and modern data infrastructure in partnership with the engineering teams. This includes managing data warehousing, ETL processes, and the selection of cutting-edge tools and technologies. You will also establish and enforce a robust data governance framework to ensure data quality, integrity, privacy, and compliance with regulations like GDPR and CCPA.

Advanced Analytics & Machine Learning

Champion the use of advanced analytical techniques, including predictive modeling, machine learning, and AI, to solve critical business problems. You will guide your team in developing models for audience segmentation, churn prediction, content recommendation engines, lifetime value forecasting, and advertising yield optimization.

Business Intelligence & Actionable Insights

Transform the organization’s BI capabilities from static reporting to dynamic, self-service analytics. You will ensure the delivery of clear, concise, and actionable insights to stakeholders at all levels, from the C-suite to content creators. Your team will build and maintain dashboards and visualizations that track key performance indicators and illuminate the stories hidden within the data.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Act as a strategic partner to leaders across the organization, including Content, Marketing, Product, Sales, and Finance. Requirements for the VP, Data & Analytics with a leading Media Group – Seattle, WA

The ideal candidate is a seasoned data executive with a deep understanding of the media landscape and a passion for building from the ground up. You are both a strategic thinker and a hands-on leader, capable of inspiring a team and influencing stakeholders across the business.

Executive Experience

A minimum of 12-15 years of progressive experience in data analytics, data science, and/or business intelligence, with at least 7+ years in a senior leadership capacity managing large, multi-functional teams. Proven experience reporting to and advising C-level executives is essential.

Industry Acumen

Significant experience within the media, entertainment, streaming, or digital publishing industries is strongly preferred. A deep understanding of media-specific business models, including subscription services, advertising technology (AdTech), and audience engagement metrics, is a major asset.

Educational Background

A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, or a related discipline. An MBA or other advanced degree is highly desirable.

Technical Proficiency

While this is a strategic leadership role, a strong technical foundation is crucial. You should have deep expertise in modern data architectures and ecosystems, including cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), data warehousing solutions (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift), big data technologies (e.g., Spark), and BI/visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Looker). Familiarity with programming languages like Python or R is expected.
