Role Overview for Chief Supply Chain Officer – Los Angeles, CA

The Chief Supply Chain Officer will assume ultimate responsibility for the strategy, execution, and performance of the company’s entire global supply chain. This encompasses strategic sourcing and procurement, demand and supply planning, inventory management, warehousing, global logistics, and final product distribution. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the CSCO will be a pivotal member of the senior leadership team, contributing to the overall strategic direction and success of the organization.

The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with a hands-on, operational mindset. They will be tasked with evaluating the current supply chain infrastructure and designing a future-state roadmap that supports rapid growth, ensures product quality and availability, and optimizes for cost and efficiency. This leader will navigate the complexities of a global network, managing relationships with critical suppliers, contract manufacturing organizations (CMOs), and logistics partners. Key Responsibilities of Chief Supply Chain Officer – Los Angeles, CA

  • Strategic Vision and Leadership: Develop, articulate, and execute a comprehensive global supply chain strategy that aligns with the company’s long-term growth objectives. Champion supply chain initiatives within the C-suite and across the organization, ensuring cross-functional alignment with Commercial, R&D, Quality, and Finance departments.
  • End-to-End Operations Management: Provide executive oversight for all supply chain functions, including demand planning, procurement, materials management, master scheduling, inventory control, logistics, and distribution. Drive operational excellence and implement best practices to improve efficiency, service levels, and profitability.
  • Quality and Regulatory Compliance: Uphold the most stringent quality standards across the supply chain. Ensure unwavering compliance with all relevant international and domestic regulations, including a deep working knowledge of FDA regulations and ISO 13485 standards. Oversee quality control processes for incoming materials and outgoing products, and lead the supply chain function during regulatory audits.
  • Supplier Relationship and Risk Management: Architect a robust and strategic global sourcing strategy. Identify, qualify, and manage key suppliers and partners, negotiating favorable contracts and terms. Develop a sophisticated risk management framework to identify potential vulnerabilities in the supply chain and implement proactive mitigation plans.
  • Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP): Lead and mature the S&OP process to effectively balance demand and supply. Collaborate with commercial and finance teams to ensure accurate forecasting, optimal inventory levels, and high customer service levels while managing working capital effectively.
  • Financial Acumen and Cost Optimization: Develop and manage the annual supply chain budget, capital expenditure plans, and cost-saving initiatives. Implement robust KPIs and performance metrics to monitor all aspects of supply chain performance, driving data-driven decisions to reduce costs and improve margins without compromising quality.
  • Technology and Digital Transformation: Champion the evaluation and implementation of advanced supply chain technologies, such as ERP systems, advanced planning software, AI/ML for demand forecasting, and IoT for logistics tracking. Leverage technology to enhance visibility, agility, and predictive capabilities across the supply chain.
  • Team Development and Mentorship: Lead, inspire, and develop a high-performing global supply chain organization. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Requirements for the Chief Supply Chain Officer – Los Angeles, CA

  • Executive Experience: A minimum of 15 years of progressive leadership experience in supply chain management, with at least 5-7 years in a senior executive role (e.g., VP of Supply Chain, SVP of Operations, CSCO) with global responsibility.
  • Industry Expertise: Demonstrable and significant experience within the medical device, pharmaceutical, or a related highly regulated life sciences industry is mandatory. A deep understanding of the unique challenges of product traceability, sterilization, cold chain logistics, and cGMP (Current Good Manufacturing Practices) is essential.
  • Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field is required. An MBA or other advanced degree is strongly preferred.
  • Strategic and Operational Prowess: Proven ability to design and execute complex global supply chain strategies that have resulted in measurable improvements in cost, quality, and service. Must possess a strong blend of strategic thinking and hands-on operational execution.
