Key Responsibilities of Chief Supply Chain Officer – Minneapolis, MN

The Chief Supply Chain Officer will assume full ownership of the global supply chain function. This includes developing and executing strategies that align with the company’s overall business objectives. Key responsibilities include:

Strategic Leadership & Vision

Develop and implement a comprehensive global supply chain strategy that supports business growth, enhances operational efficiency, and mitigates risk. Drive a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and accountability across the organization.

End-to-End Supply Chain Management

Direct all aspects of the supply chain, including demand planning, inventory management, strategic sourcing, procurement, contract manufacturing, warehousing, global logistics, and order fulfillment.

Global Sourcing & Procurement

Lead the global procurement team to develop and manage a robust network of suppliers and contract manufacturers. Foster strong supplier relationships, negotiate favorable terms, and ensure supply continuity for critical components and materials.

Inventory & Demand Planning

Implement sophisticated Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) processes to accurately forecast demand and optimize inventory levels across the global network, minimizing carrying costs while ensuring high service levels.

Logistics & Distribution

Oversee the global logistics network, including transportation, warehousing, and trade compliance. Ensure the efficient and compliant movement of goods across international borders, optimizing for both cost and speed.

Quality & Regulatory Compliance

Guarantee that all supply chain activities adhere to the highest quality standards and regulatory requirements of the medical device industry. This includes ensuring compliance with comprehensive medical device quality systems such as FDA QSR (21 CFR Part 820) and ISO 13485.

Technology & Systems Integration

Champion the adoption and optimization of supply chain technologies, including ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle), Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), and advanced planning tools to enhance visibility, efficiency, and data-driven decision-making.

Financial Acumen & Cost Optimization

Develop and manage the supply chain budget, with full P&L responsibility for the function. Identify and execute cost-saving initiatives without compromising quality or service.

Team Development & Leadership

Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing global supply chain organization. Cultivate talent and create clear career progression paths to foster a world-class team.

Risk Management

Proactively identify potential risks within the supply chain (geopolitical, supplier dependency, logistical, etc.) and develop robust mitigation strategies to ensure business continuity.

Requirements for the Chief Supply Chain Officer – Minneapolis, MN

We are seeking a distinguished leader with extensive experience and a deep understanding of the intricacies of medical device supply chains. The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

Experience

A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in supply chain management, with at least 7-10 years in a senior leadership role (Director, VP, or higher) overseeing a global function.

Industry Expertise

Deep and direct experience within the medical device, pharmaceutical, or another highly regulated life sciences industry is mandatory. Experience with Class II or Class III medical devices is strongly preferred.

Educational Background

A Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field is required. An MBA or other advanced degree is highly preferred.

Certifications

Professional certifications such as APICS Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) or Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) are highly desirable.

Technical Proficiency

Demonstrated expertise with Tier 1 ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, JDE) and advanced supply chain planning software. Strong command of data analytics and business intelligence tools.

Proven experience managing complex, multi-site international supply chains, including navigating international trade regulations, customs, and logistics challenges.
