Key Responsibilities of Director of Replenishment
Strategic Replenishment Planning & Execution
Develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive replenishment strategies that align with business objectives, optimize inventory turns, minimize stockouts, and reduce carrying costs across all distribution channels. This includes setting inventory targets, safety stock levels, and reorder points.
Demand Forecasting & Planning Leadership
Lead the demand planning function, utilizing advanced statistical models, market intelligence, and collaborative inputs from sales, marketing, and product development teams to generate accurate and reliable forecasts. Drive continuous improvement in forecasting accuracy and methodologies.
Inventory Optimization & Management
Implement best practices for inventory management, including ABC analysis, slow-moving and obsolete (SLOB) inventory management, and cycle counting programs. Monitor inventory performance against KPIs and identify opportunities for optimization and efficiency gains.
Supplier Relationship & Performance Management
Collaborate closely with procurement and suppliers to ensure timely delivery, negotiate favorable terms, manage lead times, and resolve supply chain disruptions. Establish and monitor supplier performance metrics to drive accountability and continuous improvement.
Process Improvement & Technology Integration
Identify, evaluate, and implement process improvements and technological solutions (e.g., ERP, WMS, advanced planning systems) to enhance replenishment efficiency, visibility, and automation. Drive initiatives for digital transformation within the supply chain.
Team Leadership & Development
Recruit, mentor, develop, and lead a high-performing team of replenishment and inventory specialists. Foster a culture of continuous learning, accountability, collaboration, and professional growth within the department.
Cross-functional Collaboration
Serve as a key liaison between various departments, including Sales, Marketing, Operations, Finance, and IT, to ensure alignment on inventory strategies, product launches, promotions, and supply chain initiatives.
Performance Monitoring & Reporting
Define, track, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as fill rate, inventory accuracy, forecast accuracy, inventory turns, and on-time in-full (OTIF) delivery. Provide regular insights and recommendations to senior management.
Risk Management & Supply Chain Resilience
Proactively identify potential supply chain risks, develop contingency plans, and implement strategies to mitigate disruptions. Requirements for the Director of Replenishment
Educational Background
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Logistics, Engineering, or a related field is required. A Master’s degree (MBA or MS in Supply Chain) is highly preferred.
Professional Experience
A minimum of 10-15 years of progressive experience in supply chain management, with at least 5-7 years in a senior leadership role specifically focused on replenishment, inventory planning, or demand forecasting. Experience in retail, e-commerce, consumer goods, or manufacturing sectors is highly advantageous.
Technical Proficiency
Demonstrated expertise with advanced planning systems (APS), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics), Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), and demand forecasting software. Strong proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, SQL, Tableau, Power BI) is essential.
