Key Responsibilities
The CEO is accountable to the Board of Directors for the total leadership and performance of the hospital. Key responsibilities include:
Strategic & Tripartite Mission Leadership

Develop and execute a forward-thinking strategic plan that advances the tripartite mission and ensures long-term financial viability.
Champion a culture of innovation, excellence, and collaboration across all clinical, research, and educational domains.
Provide inspirational leadership to the senior executive team, faculty, and staff, fostering a culture of high reliability, accountability, and inclusivity.

Financial & Operational Management

Assume full P&L responsibility, ensuring a strong financial position through effective revenue cycle management, cost controls, and strategic growth.
Drive operational excellence and efficiency across all hospital functions, optimizing patient throughput, resource utilization, and administrative processes.
Navigate a complex reimbursement environment, including managed care, value-based purchasing, and government payer relationships.
Ensure strict compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards (e.g., The Joint Commission, CMS, state regulations).

Patient Safety, Quality & Experience

Serve as the ultimate champion for patient safety and quality, driving a “zero-harm” culture and continuous performance improvement.
Monitor and improve all key quality, safety, and patient experience metrics (e.g., HCAHPS, Leapfrog, readmission rates).

Academic & University Integration

Build a seamless and collaborative partnership with the Dean of the School of Medicine and other university leaders.

Direct experience in an academic medical center (AMC) or a large, complex teaching hospital is essential.
An advanced degree (MHA, MBA, MPH) or a medical degree (MD, DO) with significant administrative and leadership experience.
Demonstrable track record of strong financial stewardship, operational improvement, and P&L management for a large, complex entity.
Proven experience in building strong, collaborative relationships with physician leaders, faculty, and university partners.
Experience reporting to or working closely with a Board of Directors.
